ON THE RADIO: Running For Border

Americans are running for the border.  Not the border you think, but still a border.  Sugar is a big thing in the USA.  People like their sugar, they like their sweet.  They like their snacks and soda.  What Americans don’t like is paying unrealistic and unfair taxes.

Philidelphia experienced this fact when they instituted a sugar soft drink tax within city limits, residents decided they would not pay and began buying their soda and other sugar laden drinks outside of the city.

The city didn’t collect nearly as much tax as they projected and a lot of folks that worked at bottleing plants loss their jobs because soft drink sales dropped dramatically.

Well, Seattle, WA is no begining to experience this same phenomena.  The difference is that Seattle’s sugary drink tax is rather extreme.  The tax adds about 45% to the over all cost of the product.

This is forcing every day people to simply drive, or even walk over the city line to buy their soda and other sugary drinks and avoid paying the abusive tax.

Those that will suffer?  The retailers who sell these drinks, the distributors who distribute these drinks and the city treasury when it doesn’t realize the income it was expecting.  The consumer?  Oh they wont suffer much.  They will continue to drive or walk a short distance to save 45%.
