Oregon Lawmakers Push To Lower Voting Age

Democrats and more liberal Republicans in Oregon hope to push through a bill that would allow children as young as 16 to vote in the 2020 election.

Yes, the very age which lawmakers say, is not mature enough to drive a car at night by themselves or have other teens in the car with them while they drive, or old enough to smoke tobacco or even enter an “R” rated movie alone, should be allowed to vote.

Younger Oregonians should have “a chance to participate in the ballot — about decisions that affect their homes, their clean air, their schools and, as we’ve seen, their very lives,” Democratic state Sen. Shemia Fagan said at a Monday press conference announcing the measure.

What she fails to mention is that studies have shown that kids that young tend to believe and think as their teachers tell them to. Which means, these kids would be voting for liberal ideas and ideals without the ability to reason out the full weight of their decisions.

There is a reason that we put adulthood at the age of 18. There is a reason we say people should not enjoy all the benefits of being an adult until the age of 21. These same lawmakers tell these kids they are not smart enough yet, not wise enough yet, not mature enough yet to handle complex items and issues.

Yet, somehow, they are perfectly mature enough to decide their entire future with the right to vote?
